A Windows installation is easy to do badly. Anyone can run the installer; what separates a proper job is everything after it. The most common thing we see on machines installed elsewhere is missing or generic drivers — the touchpad gestures do not work, the fan control is wrong so the laptop runs hot, the brightness keys do nothing, the card reader is missing, and the Wi-Fi is noticeably slower than it should be. The machine works, technically, but it is not the machine it was.
We install every driver from the manufacturer's own package for your exact model, in the correct order, including the chipset and power management drivers that most people skip. Those are the ones that control fan behaviour, battery charging and sleep, and getting them wrong is why a freshly installed laptop can end up running hotter and lasting less on battery than before.
The technical detail, if you want it
A few decisions matter more than people realise.
Windows 11 or Windows 10? Windows 11 has hardware requirements — TPM 2.0, Secure Boot, a supported processor — and machines that do not meet them can be forced to run it but will not receive updates reliably. Windows 10 reached end of support in October 2025, so staying on it carries a growing security risk. We check your hardware and give you a straight recommendation rather than defaulting to whatever is newest.
Licensing is the second. Most branded laptops have a digital licence embedded in the firmware, which reactivates automatically when Windows is reinstalled — you do not need to buy anything. We check for this before suggesting a purchase, and we do not sell activation cracks; they are a security risk and they break at every major update.
And we always back up first. Even when an in-place repair is planned, the drive is imaged before anything begins. A meaningful number of the machines that arrive for a 'fresh Windows install' turn out to have a failing drive, and discovering that after an erase is not a recoverable situation.
Finally, we clean up. A default installation on a branded laptop pulls in a considerable amount of manufacturer software you did not ask for. We remove what is unnecessary, keep what genuinely matters — usually the power management and function key utilities — and set a sensible startup configuration so the machine boots quickly.

We look for a digital licence embedded in your firmware, which reactivates automatically. Most branded laptops have one and you need not buy anything.

Windows 11 or 10 installed based on what your hardware actually supports, with partitions and boot mode configured correctly.

Advice from our bench
Some of this reduces the amount of work we get. We would still rather you knew it.
Check whether your laptop already has a digital licence in its firmware before buying Windows. Most branded machines do.
Never accept an installation without the full manufacturer driver set. Missing chipset and power drivers cause overheating and poor battery life.
Windows 10 reached end of support in October 2025. Staying on it means no security updates.
Back up before any reinstall, even one that is meant to preserve your data. Things go wrong.
Avoid activation cracks. They are a genuine security risk and they break at every major Windows update.
If Windows will not boot, ask for a repair attempt before agreeing to a reinstall. Many machines are recoverable.
