Desktop & All-in-One Computer Repair

Desktop not powering on, restarting, or running slowly — SMPS, motherboard, storage, RAM and graphics faults diagnosed and repaired.

Desktops are the most repairable computers there are, and that is genuinely good news for owners. Almost everything is a standard, replaceable part — power supply, memory, storage, graphics card, optical drive, fans. A desktop that will not switch on is very rarely finished; it usually needs a ₹1,200 power supply.

That matters because a lot of desktop owners are told to buy a new machine when the actual fault is trivial. A shop billing computer, a home office desktop, a child's schoolwork machine — all frequently written off for want of a power supply, a CMOS cell or an SSD. Our ₹350 diagnosis exists precisely so that nobody replaces a computer they did not need to — and it comes off the bill the moment you approve the repair.

The technical detail, if you want it

The diagnostic sequence on a desktop is straightforward and cheap to work through.

No power at all: check the wall socket and cable, then the power supply. A failing SMPS is by far the most common desktop fault in this region, and unstable local supply is why. We test the supply under load rather than just checking whether the fan spins, because a supply can start and still fail to deliver stable rails.

Powers on but nothing on screen: usually RAM, sometimes the graphics card, occasionally the board. Reseating memory fixes this more often than most people expect, and it costs nothing to try.

Random restarts and shutdowns: overheating or a marginal power supply. Both are measurable — temperatures under load, and rail voltages under load.

Date resets and BIOS errors on startup: a dead CMOS battery. It costs about ₹60 and takes two minutes.

Extremely slow: mechanical hard drive, insufficient RAM, or a drive that is failing. Same diagnostic logic as a laptop.

Beyond repair, desktops reward upgrading in a way laptops do not. Adding an SSD, more RAM, or a modern graphics card can extend a desktop's useful life by years for a modest cost, and there is no soldered-component limitation to work around.

How we carry out this repair

Every stage is documented and you see photographs of the actual fault before you approve any work.

  1. Step 01

    Free power and supply testing

Wall socket, cable and power supply tested under load rather than just checked for a spinning fan. A supply can start and still fail to hold stable rails.

  2. Step 02

    Component isolation

Minimum-configuration boot testing with components removed one at a time to isolate exactly which part has failed.

  3. Step 03

    Memory reseat and test

RAM removed, contacts cleaned and reseated, then tested with known-good modules. It costs nothing and resolves a surprising share of no-display faults.

  4. Step 04

    Storage health check

SMART data read on every drive so a failing disk is identified before it takes data with it.

  5. Step 05

    Thermal inspection and cleaning

Cabinet, CPU cooler, graphics card and power supply cleaned, thermal compound renewed and fans checked for wear.

  6. Step 06

    Written quote with options

The identified fault, the repair cost and — where relevant — whether an upgrade makes better sense than a like-for-like replacement.

  7. Step 07

    Repair and stability testing

Repair carried out, then stress testing across CPU, memory and storage before the machine is returned.

  8. Step 08

    Protection advice

We tell you the one cheap change that prevents a repeat — almost always a UPS with surge protection.

Options and prices

Where more than one approach solves your fault, we quote all of them and explain the trade-off. The cheapest option that genuinely works is always on the list.

Option Price
CMOS battery replacement Fixes date resets and BIOS errors at startup. ₹150 – ₹300
SMPS / power supply replacement The most common desktop repair. Correctly rated for your system. ₹1,200 – ₹3,500
RAM replacement or upgrade Speed-matched modules in the correct slots. ₹1,400 – ₹6,200
SSD upgrade with clone Largest single performance improvement on an older desktop. ₹2,200 – ₹9,500
Motherboard repair or replacement Capacitor-level repair attempted before replacement is suggested. ₹2,500 – ₹9,000
Graphics card service or replacement Cleaning and repasting first; replacement only if genuinely failed. ₹1,500 – ₹12,000
Full internal cleaning and service Recommended annually, or six-monthly in dusty areas. ₹700 – ₹1,400

Prices are indicative ranges. Your exact figure is confirmed in writing after the ₹350 bench diagnosis, and it does not change afterwards.

Advice from our bench

Some of this reduces the amount of work we get. We would still rather you knew it.

A desktop that will not switch on is very rarely finished. The power supply is the most common cause and it is an inexpensive part.

Get a UPS with surge protection. Most desktop failures we attend in this region trace back to power events.

Clean the cabinet internally once a year, or every six months in dusty areas like Narangi, Waliv or Pelhar.

Do not place the cabinet directly on the floor if you can avoid it — it pulls in far more dust down there.

A date error at every startup is a dead CMOS battery. It costs about ₹60 and takes two minutes.

Adding an SSD to an old desktop extends its useful life by years for a very modest cost.

“Our parish office computer stopped working and we were told to buy a new one. They came out, found it was the power supply, replaced it for a small amount and also set up backups for our records which nobody had ever done. Very patient in explaining everything. We now have them on a yearly arrangement.”

“My billing computer died on a Saturday afternoon which is my busiest time. Called them and they were at the shop within thirty minutes. SMPS had failed, replaced on the spot, I was back to billing within the hour. Then told me to get a UPS which I did. Honest people.”

“My Omen was shutting down mid-game and two shops told me the graphics card had failed. These guys measured the temperatures first, showed me the graph, and it turned out the heatsink was completely blocked. Full clean and repaste, temperatures dropped by around 20 degrees, and it has been stable for four months. They saved me from buying a card I did not need.”

Desktop Computer Repair — your questions answered

My desktop will not turn on at all. Is it finished?
Very unlikely. The most common cause is a failed power supply, typically ₹1,200 to ₹3,500 to replace, followed by a dead CMOS battery at about ₹60. Being told to buy a new computer for either of these is unfortunately common and usually unnecessary.
Why do power supplies fail so often here?
Unstable mains supply. Voltage spikes, brownouts and frequent cuts stress the supply until it fails. A UPS with surge protection prevents the majority of these failures and costs far less than repeated repairs.
Is it worth repairing an old desktop or should I replace it?
If the board and processor still meet your needs, repairing and upgrading is almost always better value. An SSD and a RAM top-up on a working Core i3 or i5 desktop makes it feel new for a fraction of a replacement cost.
My computer restarts randomly. What causes that?
Usually overheating or a marginal power supply. Both are measurable — we check temperatures under load and rail voltages under load, rather than guessing.
Do you collect desktop cabinets?
Yes, free of charge across Virar, Nallasopara, Vasai and Naigaon. We collect the cabinet and can attend on-site for setups where the machine cannot leave the premises.
Can you build a custom desktop?
Yes — component selection, assembly, cable management, BIOS configuration, thermal testing and OS setup. We advise on where the money is best spent for what you actually do rather than pushing the most expensive parts.
