Laptop batteries are consumables. They are chemically designed to degrade, and after roughly 500 to 800 full charge cycles — which for most people is two to four years — capacity has typically fallen far enough that the laptop is no longer genuinely portable. That is normal, not a fault.
What is not normal, and what we see far too often in this belt, is a replacement battery sold as a 6000 mAh cell that measures 3200 mAh the moment we read it. Because a battery's real capacity is invisible from the outside, it is one of the easiest components in the whole machine to misrepresent. Our answer is simple: we read the design capacity, full-charge capacity, cycle count and wear percentage directly from the battery's own controller, print it on your invoice, and let you verify it yourself at any time.
The technical detail, if you want it
There are three distinct problems people describe as 'battery issues' and they need different fixes.
The first is genuine capacity loss. The cells have aged, full-charge capacity has fallen well below design capacity, and runtime has dropped accordingly. That needs a new battery, and there is no software trick that recovers it.
The second is a charging fault that looks like a battery problem. The battery is healthy but the laptop shows 'plugged in, not charging', or charges to 60% and stops, or is not detected at all. That is usually the charging circuit, the charging IC or the adapter — not the battery — and replacing the battery does not fix it. We test with a known-good battery and a known-good adapter before quoting so nobody buys the wrong part.
The third is swelling, and it is the one that matters most. Lithium cells that have been kept permanently at 100% charge in a warm room can vent gas internally and expand. The symptoms are a trackpad that will not click, a bottom panel that bulges, a laptop that no longer sits flat, or a keyboard that has started to lift. This is a genuine fire risk. If your laptop is doing any of that, stop charging it, stop pressing on it, and call us the same day. Removal and safe disposal is quick and inexpensive; the alternative is not.

Advice from our bench
Some of this reduces the amount of work we get. We would still rather you knew it.
If your laptop lives on mains power, keeping the charge between 40% and 80% roughly doubles battery lifespan compared to sitting at 100%.
Heat is the biggest killer of batteries in this region. Never leave a laptop charging on a bed, in a car or in direct sun.
Do not fully discharge a lithium battery on purpose — that advice is decades out of date and actively harmful to modern cells.
A bulging laptop is a fire risk. Stop using it immediately and call the same day.
Always ask for the measured capacity in writing. It is the only way to know whether you actually got what you paid for.
