MacBook Logic Board Repair — Component Level, Not Replacement

Component-level MacBook logic board repair — no power, no backlight, no charging, liquid corrosion and SMC faults fixed on the board.

Apple does not repair logic boards; it replaces them. That is a legitimate service model, but for an out-of-warranty MacBook it frequently means a quote that approaches the value of the machine — and for a fault that is often a single failed component costing a few hundred rupees.

We repair at component level. Board schematics and boardview files for MacBook logic boards are well documented, the common failure points are known, and with a microscope, a preheater, controlled hot air and a bench power supply, the great majority of these boards are genuinely repairable. Customers come to us from all four belts specifically for this, usually holding a replacement quote from somewhere else.

The technical detail, if you want it

Certain MacBook faults are so well characterised that we can often predict the failing component from the symptom.

No backlight with an image visible under a torch is, on many models, a blown backlight fuse or a failed backlight driver — frequently caused by hot-plugging a display or by a liquid event. It is one of the most common MacBook board repairs and one of the cheapest.

Not charging, or charging inconsistently, typically points at the charging circuit — the ISL or similar charging IC, the associated MOSFETs, or the USB-C power delivery controller on newer machines. Again, component-level and repairable.

No power at all is diagnosed the same way as any laptop board: current signature on a bench supply, then the power sequence traced against the schematic — PPBUS, the SMC rails, the power-on signal, the CPU core rails.

Liquid damage is the category where MacBooks suffer most, because the design channels liquid through the keyboard and speaker grilles directly onto the board, and because the boards use fine-pitch components that corrode quickly. Speed of intake matters enormously.

We are also clear about limits. On Apple Silicon machines, storage is soldered to the board and tied to the Secure Enclave, so a board fault can mean data loss in a way it does not on older Intel models. We tell customers this before starting work, because it changes how urgent a backup is.

How we carry out this repair

Every stage is documented and you see photographs of the actual fault before you approve any work.

  1. Step 01

Model, year and board revision identification

MacBook board layouts and known failure points vary sharply by year. We identify the exact board revision so we are working from the correct schematic.

  2. Step 02

    Microscope inspection

The board is examined for corrosion, burnt components, liquid tide marks and previous repair attempts, all photographed and shared with you.

  3. Step 03

    Bench supply current signature

Current draw at controlled voltage identifies short, open or stalled conditions immediately and narrows the fault region before anything is touched.

  4. Step 04

    Rail and sequence tracing

PPBUS, SMC rails, power-on signalling and CPU core rails traced in order against the boardview for your specific revision.

  5. Step 05

    Data risk assessment

On Apple Silicon and T2 machines we explain the soldered-storage implications before starting, so you understand the data position rather than discovering it later.

  6. Step 06

    Component-level repair

Board preheated, failed component removed under controlled hot air, pads cleaned and re-tinned, replacement placed and reflowed under the microscope.

  7. Step 07

    Ultrasonic cleaning and coating

Flux residue removed ultrasonically and repaired sections conformal-coated — particularly important for customers in coastal and creek-side areas.

  8. Step 08

    72-hour verification

Extended testing across charge cycles, thermal load, sleep and wake, and cold starts before the machine goes back to you.

Options and prices

Where more than one approach solves your fault, we quote all of them and explain the trade-off. The cheapest option that genuinely works is always on the list.

Option Price
Backlight fuse / driver repair One of the most common and most affordable MacBook board repairs. ₹3,500 – ₹6,500
Charging circuit repair Charging IC, MOSFETs or USB-C power delivery controller. ₹4,500 – ₹8,500
No-power power rail repair Component-level repair of the failed rail. ₹4,500 – ₹9,000
Liquid damage board recovery Ultrasonic cleaning, trace rebuilding and component replacement. ₹6,000 – ₹14,000
USB-C port replacement Fine-pitch connector work under microscope. ₹5,500 – ₹9,500
Complex multi-fault board repair Still typically well below Apple board replacement pricing. ₹9,000 – ₹18,000

Prices are indicative ranges. Your exact figure is confirmed in writing after the ₹350 bench diagnosis, and it does not change afterwards.

Advice from our bench

Some of this reduces the amount of work we get. We would still rather you knew it.

Get a component-level second opinion before accepting a logic board replacement quote. Ours is free and the difference is often substantial.

On Apple Silicon MacBooks the storage is soldered to the board — back up continuously, because a board fault can mean data loss.

Use a genuine or properly certified charger. Cheap USB-C chargers are a recognised cause of power delivery controller failure.

If liquid has been spilled, power off immediately and do not attempt to restart. Speed of intake is the single biggest factor in recovery.

Avoid hot-plugging external displays while the machine is running on some models — it is a known cause of backlight fuse failure.

“My Omen was shutting down mid-game and two shops told me the graphics card had failed. These guys measured the temperatures first, showed me the graph, and it turned out the heatsink was completely blocked. Full clean and repaste, temperatures dropped by around 20 degrees, and it has been stable for four months. They saved me from buying a card I did not need.”

“The service centre quoted me ₹16,500 for a new motherboard. I brought that quote here and they opened it under a microscope, photographed the burnt component and repaired it for ₹2,800. They also showed me why my charger was causing it. Three months on, no problems at all.”

“Our parish office computer stopped working and we were told to buy a new one. They came out, found it was the power supply, replaced it for a small amount and also set up backups for our records which nobody had ever done. Very patient in explaining everything. We now have them on a yearly arrangement.”

MacBook Logic Board Repair — your questions answered

Apple quoted a full logic board replacement. Can you repair mine instead?
Usually, yes. Apple's service model is replacement, not repair, but most board faults are a single component. Backlight fuses, charging ICs, power rail MOSFETs and corroded traces are all repairable, typically at a small fraction of a replacement quote.
Is a component-level repair reliable?
Yes, when it is done properly and the root cause is addressed. We give six months of written warranty on the repaired section and we run seventy-two hours of verification testing before handover.
Will I lose my data during a logic board repair?
On Intel MacBooks with removable storage, no. On T2 and Apple Silicon machines the storage is soldered and encrypted to the board, so there is genuine data risk — we explain exactly where you stand before starting any work.
My MacBook screen is dark but I can see an image with a torch. What is that?
That is a backlight fault — usually a blown backlight fuse or a failed driver on the logic board. It is one of the most common MacBook board repairs and one of the least expensive.
How long does a MacBook board repair take?
Three to seven working days. The repair itself is faster, but the seventy-two-hour verification cycle is essential for catching incomplete repairs before you do.
What if the board cannot be repaired?
You pay nothing — no diagnosis, collection or return charge. We will also attempt data recovery and explain your realistic options honestly.
