Chip-Level Laptop Motherboard Repair Across Vasai–Virar
Chip-level board repair with a microscope, rework station and boardview schematics. We fix the failed component instead of quoting a whole new motherboard.
This is the service that separates a real repair workshop from a parts counter, and it is the reason customers travel to us from all four belts. When a laptop will not power on, powers on but shows nothing, shuts down under load, or refuses to charge, the majority of service centres will run a basic test, declare the motherboard faulty and quote you a replacement board — commonly ₹12,000 to ₹22,000, which on a four-year-old laptop is close to what the machine is worth.
In our experience the overwhelming majority of those boards have a single failed component on them. A charging IC, a MOSFET on the power rail, a shorted tantalum capacitor, a cracked solder joint under the GPU, a blown fuse on the USB line. Replacing that component costs a small fraction of the board and, done properly with the right equipment, lasts. That is what we do here — with a stereo microscope, hot-air rework and preheating stations, a DC power analyser, a thermal camera and boardview schematics for the model in front of us.
The technical detail, if you want it
The diagnostic method matters more than the soldering. We start by measuring what the board is drawing from a bench power supply at a known voltage. A healthy board has a characteristic current signature at each stage of the power sequence; a shorted rail draws heavily at zero, and an open rail draws almost nothing. That single measurement immediately narrows the fault to a region of the board before we have touched anything.
From there we work through the power sequence in order — the 19V input, the always-on 3.3V and 5V rails, the embedded controller, the CPU core rails, the clock and reset lines — comparing measured voltages against the schematic for that specific board revision. A thermal camera finds shorted components in seconds by showing which part is heating when the rail is energised. Once the failed component is identified, it comes off under hot air with the board preheated to avoid thermal shock, the pads are cleaned and re-tinned, and the replacement goes down under a microscope.
We are also honest about the limits. Boards with extensive liquid corrosion across multiple layers, boards with lifted or severed inner-layer traces, and BGA packages that have failed internally are sometimes not economically repairable. When that is the case we say so, show you the evidence under the microscope, and charge you nothing for the diagnosis.
How we carry out this repair
Every stage is documented and you see photographs of the actual fault before you approve any work.
-
Step 01
Visual inspection under magnification
The board comes out and goes under the stereo microscope. Burn marks, corrosion, lifted components, previous repair attempts and physical damage are all photographed and shown to you.
-
Step 02
Current-draw signature test
The board is powered from a bench supply and the current draw measured at each stage. This alone identifies whether a rail is shorted, open or healthy before anything is touched.
-
Step 03
Rail-by-rail voltage tracing
We follow the power sequence against the boardview schematic for your exact board revision, checking each rail, the embedded controller, the clocks and the reset lines.
-
Step 04
Thermal and short localisation
A thermal camera and, where needed, freeze spray pinpoint the exact component heating on a shorted rail — often a capacitor or MOSFET no larger than a grain of rice.
-
Step 05
Written quote with photographs
You get the identified fault, photographs from the microscope, the repair cost and the honest probability of success. If we think it is not economically worth repairing, we say so.
-
Step 06
Component-level repair
Board preheated to avoid thermal shock, failed component removed under hot air, pads cleaned and re-tinned, replacement placed and reflowed under the microscope.
-
Step 07
Cleaning and protection
Flux residue removed ultrasonically, and for coastal and creek-side areas the repaired section is conformal-coated so it survives the local humidity.
-
Step 08
48-hour burn-in
The rebuilt machine runs stress tests over at least forty-eight hours — CPU, GPU, memory, charge and discharge cycles — before it is returned to you.
Options and prices
Where more than one approach solves your fault, we quote all of them and explain the trade-off. The cheapest option that genuinely works is always on the list.
| Option | Price | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Charging IC / power rail repair Covers most "not charging" and dead-board faults. | ₹1,500 – ₹3,200 | Covers most "not charging" and dead-board faults. |
| Shorted capacitor or MOSFET replacement Typical fix for no-power and instant-shutdown faults. | ₹1,500 – ₹2,800 | Typical fix for no-power and instant-shutdown faults. |
| DC jack / charging port resoldering Where the socket has worked loose from the board. | ₹900 – ₹2,200 | Where the socket has worked loose from the board. |
| BGA reball (GPU or chipset) For cracked solder joints under the graphics or chipset package. | ₹4,500 – ₹9,500 | For cracked solder joints under the graphics or chipset package. |
| Liquid-damage board recovery Ultrasonic cleaning, trace rebuilding and component replacement. | ₹2,500 – ₹7,500 | Ultrasonic cleaning, trace rebuilding and component replacement. |
| Board replacement (last resort) Only recommended when component repair genuinely is not viable. | Quoted per model | Only recommended when component repair genuinely is not viable. |
Prices are indicative ranges. Your exact figure is confirmed in writing after the ₹350 bench diagnosis, and it does not change afterwards.
Advice from our bench
Some of this reduces the amount of work we get. We would still rather you knew it.
If a service centre quotes a full board replacement without opening the board under magnification, get a second opinion — ours is free.
Stop using a laptop that has had liquid spilled on it. Every hour it stays powered increases the corrosion damage.
Use the original charger or a properly rated replacement. Cheap adapters are a leading cause of charging circuit failure.
A laptop that shuts down under load is warning you. Continuing to run it at high temperature is what turns a cleaning job into a reball.
Keep the box and the invoice from any previous repair — knowing what was done before genuinely speeds up diagnosis.

Customers who had this repair
“The service centre quoted me ₹16,500 for a new motherboard. I brought that quote here and they opened it under a microscope, photographed the burnt component and repaired it for ₹2,800. They also showed me why my charger was causing it. Three months on, no problems at all.”

“My USB ports had been failing one by one over two years. They showed me the green corrosion on the board under a camera and explained it was the sea air. Cleaned it, repaired the damaged parts and put a protective coating on for free because of where we live. Very few people bother to explain things like that.”

Laptop Motherboard Repair
“My Omen was shutting down mid-game and two shops told me the graphics card had failed. These guys measured the temperatures first, showed me the graph, and it turned out the heatsink was completely blocked. Full clean and repaste, temperatures dropped by around 20 degrees, and it has been stable for four months. They saved me from buying a card I did not need.”
