CCTV Installation, Repair & Recorder Servicing

Recorders losing footage, cameras offline, remote viewing not working — plus new installations sized properly for the site.

The most common CCTV complaint we attend is footage that is not there when it is needed. The cameras look fine, the recorder shows a live picture, but the recording from three days ago is missing. That is almost always the hard drive.

Consumer hard drives are not designed for continuous writing, and inside a recorder they are writing twenty-four hours a day in a warm, often dusty enclosure. In this region they typically last twelve to eighteen months before they start dropping recordings silently. Surveillance-rated drives are built for that duty cycle and, combined with proper ventilation and surge protection, they typically last three times as long. That single change resolves most of the recurring problems we see in shops around Achole Road, Jivdani Road and Golani Naka.

The technical detail, if you want it

Beyond drives, the recurring faults are predictable.

Cameras going offline one by one usually means a power supply problem rather than camera failure. A single supply feeding eight cameras degrades over time and the cameras furthest down the cable run drop out first. Measuring voltage at the camera end rather than at the supply identifies it immediately.

Water ingress into outdoor camera housings and junction boxes is common here, particularly through the monsoon. Poorly sealed cable entries let water track down the cable into the housing. It is entirely preventable with proper glanding and drip loops, and it is one of the most common installation shortcuts we find.

Remote viewing that has stopped working is usually an app or account issue after a router change or a firmware update, not a fault. It is quick to reconfigure.

For new installations, the two things that matter most are camera placement and lighting. A camera at the wrong height gives you the top of everyone's head; a camera pointed at a bright doorway gives you silhouettes. We survey the site and plan placement around what you actually need to see — faces at entry points, number plates at gates, general coverage elsewhere — rather than simply mounting cameras at the corners.

We also set retention honestly. A system sized for seven days of footage will not have the incident you need if you only check the recording after two weeks. We work out the retention you actually need and size the storage for it.

How we carry out this repair

Every stage is documented and you see photographs of the actual fault before you approve any work.

  1. Step 01

    System health check

Recorder logs, drive SMART data, retention actually achieved versus configured, and camera status reviewed together.

  2. Step 02

    Power measurement at the camera

Voltage measured at the camera end, not at the supply. It identifies degraded supplies and long-run voltage drop immediately.

  3. Step 03

    Housing and cable inspection

Outdoor housings, glands and junction boxes checked for water ingress, which is the most common outdoor failure here.

  4. Step 04

    Drive replacement with correct spec

Surveillance-rated drives fitted, sized for the retention period you actually need rather than the minimum that fits.

  5. Step 05

    Ventilation and protection

Recorder ventilation improved where it is enclosed, and surge protection fitted, since power events cause a large share of failures.

  6. Step 06

    Site survey for new installations

Camera placement planned around what you need to see — faces at entries, plates at gates — allowing for lighting conditions at different times of day.

  7. Step 07

    Remote viewing setup

Phone app configured with secure credentials, and the configuration documented so it can be restored after a router change.

  8. Step 08

    Verification and handover

Recording verified across all channels, night performance checked after dark, and retention confirmed against the actual footage stored.

Options and prices

Where more than one approach solves your fault, we quote all of them and explain the trade-off. The cheapest option that genuinely works is always on the list.

Option Price
Recorder service and health check Logs, drive health, retention verification and cleaning. ₹1,200 – ₹2,500
Surveillance drive replacement (1–2 TB) Rated for continuous writing, unlike consumer drives. ₹4,500 – ₹8,500
Camera repair or replacement (per camera) Including housing resealing where water has entered. ₹1,500 – ₹4,500
Power supply replacement Correctly rated for the number of cameras and cable runs. ₹1,800 – ₹4,500
Remote viewing reconfiguration After a router change or firmware update. ₹600 – ₹1,200
4-camera installation (supplied and fitted) Survey, cabling, recorder, drive and configuration. ₹14,000 – ₹26,000
8-camera installation (supplied and fitted) Sized for your actual retention requirement. ₹24,000 – ₹45,000

Prices are indicative ranges. Your exact figure is confirmed in writing after the ₹350 bench diagnosis, and it does not change afterwards.

Advice from our bench

Some of this reduces the amount of work we get. We would still rather you knew it.

Use surveillance-rated drives, not consumer ones. Consumer drives in a recorder typically last twelve to eighteen months here.

Check your footage occasionally. Silent recording failure is common and you do not want to discover it after an incident.

Give the recorder ventilation. A recorder in a closed cupboard runs hot and shortens the drive's life considerably.

Fit surge protection. Power events are the leading cause of recorder and camera failures in this region.

Plan camera placement around what you need to see. A camera at the wrong height gives you the top of people's heads.

Size storage for the retention you actually need, not the minimum. Seven days is often not enough.

“We kept losing CCTV recordings at our resort. They explained the drives we were using were not built for continuous recording, fitted surveillance drives and added surge protection. Also cleaned and coated the front desk computer against the salt air. Ten months and no problems, which is a first for us here.”

“My Omen was shutting down mid-game and two shops told me the graphics card had failed. These guys measured the temperatures first, showed me the graph, and it turned out the heatsink was completely blocked. Full clean and repaste, temperatures dropped by around 20 degrees, and it has been stable for four months. They saved me from buying a card I did not need.”

“The service centre quoted me ₹16,500 for a new motherboard. I brought that quote here and they opened it under a microscope, photographed the burnt component and repaired it for ₹2,800. They also showed me why my charger was causing it. Three months on, no problems at all.”

CCTV Installation & Repair — your questions answered

My CCTV keeps losing recordings. What is wrong?
Almost always the hard drive. Consumer drives are not designed for continuous writing and fail within twelve to eighteen months inside a recorder here. A surveillance-rated drive, proper ventilation and surge protection typically triple that lifespan.
My cameras are going offline one at a time. Are they failing?
Usually not — it is normally the power supply degrading, and the cameras furthest along the cable run drop out first as voltage falls. We measure at the camera end rather than at the supply, which identifies it straight away.
There is water inside my outdoor camera. Is it repairable?
Often yes, if it is caught early. We dry and clean the housing, reseal the cable entry properly and fit a drip loop. Poorly sealed cable entries are the most common outdoor installation shortcut we find.
Remote viewing stopped working on my phone. Why?
Usually a router change or a firmware update that reset the configuration. It is a reconfiguration rather than a fault, and we document the settings afterwards so it can be restored quickly next time.
How much storage do I need?
It depends on camera count, resolution and how far back you realistically need to look. We work out your actual retention requirement and size the drive for it, rather than fitting the smallest drive that works.
Do you install new CCTV systems as well as repair them?
Yes. We survey the site, plan camera placement around what you actually need to see, allow for lighting at different times of day, and configure everything including remote viewing.
