MacBook Air & MacBook Pro Battery Replacement

Service Battery warnings, swelling, trackpad click failure and rapid drain on MacBook Air and Pro — with cycle count and health verified before and after.

MacBook batteries are glued into the chassis with adhesive strips, which makes replacement a more delicate job than on a typical Windows laptop and is why it takes closer to ninety minutes than thirty. Done carelessly — prying with metal tools, applying heat unevenly, puncturing a cell — it goes badly wrong. Done properly with adhesive remover and the correct tooling, it is a clean, reliable repair.

The most important MacBook-specific point is swelling. Apple batteries swell in a very recognisable way: the trackpad stops clicking because the cell underneath is pressing up against it, and the machine no longer sits flat on a table. If your MacBook is doing either of those, stop using it and call the same day. A swollen lithium cell is a fire risk and continued pressure on it makes matters worse.

The technical detail, if you want it

macOS gives you exactly the data you need, and it is worth knowing how to read it. Holding Option and clicking the Apple menu, then System Information, then Power, shows cycle count, condition and full-charge capacity. Apple rates most MacBook batteries for 1000 cycles; below about 80% of design capacity the machine will start showing a Service Battery or Service Recommended message.

That message is not always the battery, though. Some machines report battery service warnings when the fault is actually the charging circuit or the SMC. We read the full battery data, test with a known-good battery, and check the charging circuit before recommending a replacement — because on a MacBook, replacing the wrong part is an expensive mistake.

On newer models the battery is part of the top case assembly, which means Apple's own repair path replaces the top case, keyboard and trackpad together. Standalone battery replacement is possible on many of those models with careful work, and it costs considerably less. We tell you which applies to your machine and what the trade-offs are.

After fitting we run a full calibration cycle — charge to 100%, rest, discharge to shutdown, recharge — so the reported percentage matches the real capacity, and we show you the new battery's measured design capacity and cycle count on handover.

How we carry out this repair

Every stage is documented and you see photographs of the actual fault before you approve any work.

  1. Step 01

    Full battery health reading

Cycle count, condition, design capacity and current full-charge capacity read from macOS and directly from the battery controller, and shown to you before any recommendation.

  2. Step 02

    Charging circuit and SMC verification

We confirm the fault is genuinely the battery rather than the charging circuit or SMC, because on a MacBook replacing the wrong part is an expensive error.

  3. Step 03

    Swelling assessment

Bottom case, trackpad clearance and top case flatness checked. Swollen cells are treated as urgent and handled with the machine isolated.

  4. Step 04

    Controlled adhesive removal

Adhesive strips released with proper solvent and non-metallic tools. No prying against cells, no uneven heat — this is where careless work causes punctures.

  5. Step 05

    Correct part fitting

Battery matched to your exact model and year. Where standalone replacement is possible instead of a full top-case assembly, we do that and pass on the saving.

  6. Step 06

    Calibration cycle

Charge to full, rest, discharge to shutdown and recharge, so the reported percentage reflects real capacity from the first day.

  7. Step 07

    Verified handover and safe disposal

New design capacity and cycle count shown and printed on the invoice, and the old battery routed through proper e-waste channels.

Options and prices

Where more than one approach solves your fault, we quote all of them and explain the trade-off. The cheapest option that genuinely works is always on the list.

Option Price
MacBook Air battery replacement Model and year specific. Includes adhesive removal and calibration. ₹4,500 – ₹8,500
MacBook Pro 13" battery replacement Standalone replacement where the model permits it. ₹6,500 – ₹10,500
MacBook Pro 15" / 16" battery replacement Larger cell capacity, model-specific pricing. ₹8,500 – ₹12,500
Swollen battery emergency removal Waived when a replacement battery is fitted. ₹900
Charging circuit repair (not a battery fault) Board-level repair where the battery tests healthy. ₹4,500 – ₹8,500
Battery health report No obligation, whether or not you proceed. Free

Prices are indicative ranges. Your exact figure is confirmed in writing after the ₹350 bench diagnosis, and it does not change afterwards.

Advice from our bench

Some of this reduces the amount of work we get. We would still rather you knew it.

Check your own battery health: hold Option, click the Apple menu, then System Information and Power. Cycle count and condition are both listed.

If the trackpad has stopped clicking or the MacBook rocks on the table, the battery has swollen. Stop using it and call the same day.

Enable Optimised Battery Charging in macOS. It keeps the battery off 100% when it does not need to be there, and it genuinely extends lifespan.

Heat is the main enemy in this region. Never leave a MacBook charging in a car, in direct sun or on a bed.

Never pry at a MacBook battery yourself. Puncturing a lithium cell is dangerous and it is very easy to do with the wrong tool.

“My Omen was shutting down mid-game and two shops told me the graphics card had failed. These guys measured the temperatures first, showed me the graph, and it turned out the heatsink was completely blocked. Full clean and repaste, temperatures dropped by around 20 degrees, and it has been stable for four months. They saved me from buying a card I did not need.”

“The service centre quoted me ₹16,500 for a new motherboard. I brought that quote here and they opened it under a microscope, photographed the burnt component and repaired it for ₹2,800. They also showed me why my charger was causing it. Three months on, no problems at all.”

“Our parish office computer stopped working and we were told to buy a new one. They came out, found it was the power supply, replaced it for a small amount and also set up backups for our records which nobody had ever done. Very patient in explaining everything. We now have them on a yearly arrangement.”

MacBook Battery Replacement — your questions answered

How do I check my MacBook battery health myself?
Hold the Option key, click the Apple menu, choose System Information and then Power. It shows cycle count, condition and full-charge capacity. Apple rates most MacBook batteries for around 1000 cycles.
My trackpad stopped clicking. Is that the battery?
Almost certainly. On most MacBooks the battery sits directly under the trackpad, and even slight swelling removes the clearance it needs to move. It is also a safety issue — stop using the machine and call the same day.
Do you have to replace the whole top case?
Apple's repair path does on many models, but standalone battery replacement is possible on a good number of them with careful adhesive work. Where it is, we do that and the saving is substantial. We tell you which applies to your machine.
Is a third-party MacBook battery safe?
A good quality one, correctly fitted and calibrated, is. A cheap one is not. We use cells that meet the original specification, verify measured capacity after fitting, print it on your invoice and back it with twelve months of warranty.
How long does it take?
One to two working days. The fitting itself takes about ninety minutes because the adhesive must be removed carefully, and the calibration cycle afterwards takes several more hours.
What happens to my old battery?
It goes through proper e-waste channels. Swollen lithium cells in particular must never go into ordinary rubbish, and there is no charge for handling this.
