iMac & Mac Mini Repair, Upgrades and Servicing

iMac display replacement, Fusion Drive to SSD conversion, RAM upgrades, logic board repair and Mac Mini service across all four belts.

iMacs and Mac Minis are common in the design, photography and small-office community across Vasai and Virar, and they are machines that reward maintenance. An iMac with a healthy board can run productively for eight or ten years, but two things hold them back: the Fusion Drive and dust.

The Fusion Drive is the bigger one. It pairs a small SSD with a large mechanical disk and presents them as one volume, and when the mechanical half slows or begins to fail, the whole machine becomes painful to use. Converting to a single SSD is the single most transformative thing you can do to an older iMac — boot times drop from minutes to seconds and applications open immediately. On many models it also removes the biggest remaining point of mechanical failure.

The technical detail, if you want it

Opening an iMac properly matters. The display is bonded to the chassis with adhesive strips that must be cut with a specific tool and replaced on reassembly. Done carelessly, you end up with a display that does not seal, which lets dust behind the glass — and dust behind an iMac panel is effectively permanent. We use the correct cutting wheel and fit fresh adhesive strips every time.

Once inside, the common jobs are storage conversion, RAM upgrades, thermal servicing and power supply replacement. Thermal servicing is under-appreciated on iMacs: they draw air from the bottom edge and exhaust through the top, and after a few years the internal fins and fan are thick with dust. That drives temperatures up, which shortens the life of the power supply and the board.

RAM accessibility varies by model. The 27-inch iMac has a user-accessible hatch; the 21.5-inch generally requires the display to be removed, which is why an upgrade on that model costs more in labour. We tell you which applies before quoting.

Mac Minis are simpler and generally more repairable — storage, RAM on some models, power supply and thermal servicing are all straightforward. The main caution is the same as elsewhere in the Apple range: on Apple Silicon models, storage is soldered.

How we carry out this repair

Every stage is documented and you see photographs of the actual fault before you approve any work.

  1. Step 01

    Model, year and configuration identification

Serial checked for exact model, year and factory configuration, since upgrade paths and part compatibility vary considerably between iMac generations.

  2. Step 02

    Storage and thermal health assessment

SMART data on both halves of a Fusion Drive, plus internal temperatures under load, to identify what is genuinely limiting the machine.

  3. Step 03

    Proper display removal

Adhesive cut with the correct tool and the display lifted safely, with fresh adhesive strips fitted on reassembly so the panel seals properly against dust.

  4. Step 04

Full data clone before any storage work

Existing system cloned to the new SSD so applications, settings and files carry across exactly. Nothing needs reinstalling.

  5. Step 05

    Thermal service

Internal fins and fan cleaned, thermal compound renewed on the processor and, where fitted, the graphics package.

  6. Step 06

    Upgrade and repair work

SSD conversion, RAM upgrade, power supply replacement or component-level board repair as required, with each priced separately.

  7. Step 07

    Reassembly, sealing and testing

Fresh adhesive fitted, display sealed, then extended testing across thermals, storage performance and display uniformity before delivery.

Options and prices

Where more than one approach solves your fault, we quote all of them and explain the trade-off. The cheapest option that genuinely works is always on the list.

Option Price
Fusion Drive to SSD conversion (500 GB) The single biggest improvement for an older iMac. ₹6,500 – ₹9,500
Fusion Drive to SSD conversion (1 TB) Includes clone, adhesive strips and thermal service. ₹9,500 – ₹14,000
iMac RAM upgrade 27" models have an access hatch; 21.5" requires display removal. ₹3,500 – ₹12,000
iMac thermal service Fin and fan cleaning plus fresh thermal compound. ₹2,500 – ₹4,500
iMac power supply replacement Common cause of no-power and random shutdown faults. ₹5,500 – ₹11,000
iMac display replacement Model and year specific, quoted after identification. ₹12,000 – ₹22,000
Mac Mini SSD / RAM upgrade Where the model has non-soldered components. ₹4,500 – ₹11,000

Prices are indicative ranges. Your exact figure is confirmed in writing after the ₹350 bench diagnosis, and it does not change afterwards.

Advice from our bench

Some of this reduces the amount of work we get. We would still rather you knew it.

If your iMac has a Fusion Drive and feels slow, converting to a pure SSD is the most effective upgrade available and usually costs far less than replacing the machine.

Have the internal cooling cleaned every two years. Dust build-up shortens the life of the power supply and the board.

Keep the bottom air intake clear — do not push the iMac back flush against a wall or block the vent with papers.

Back up with Time Machine to an external drive. It is built in, it works well and it costs nothing but the drive.

Never open an iMac without the correct adhesive cutting tool. A poorly resealed display lets dust behind the glass permanently.

“My Omen was shutting down mid-game and two shops told me the graphics card had failed. These guys measured the temperatures first, showed me the graph, and it turned out the heatsink was completely blocked. Full clean and repaste, temperatures dropped by around 20 degrees, and it has been stable for four months. They saved me from buying a card I did not need.”

“The service centre quoted me ₹16,500 for a new motherboard. I brought that quote here and they opened it under a microscope, photographed the burnt component and repaired it for ₹2,800. They also showed me why my charger was causing it. Three months on, no problems at all.”

“Our parish office computer stopped working and we were told to buy a new one. They came out, found it was the power supply, replaced it for a small amount and also set up backups for our records which nobody had ever done. Very patient in explaining everything. We now have them on a yearly arrangement.”

iMac & Mac Mini Repair — your questions answered

My iMac has become very slow. Is it worth upgrading or should I replace it?
If the board and display are healthy, upgrading is almost always the better value. Converting a Fusion Drive or mechanical disk to a pure SSD transforms an older iMac, typically for well under a quarter of the cost of a new machine.
What is a Fusion Drive and why is it a problem?
It pairs a small SSD with a large mechanical disk and presents them as one volume. When the mechanical half slows or starts failing, the whole machine becomes slow and unreliable. Converting to a single SSD removes the problem entirely.
Will I lose my data or have to reinstall everything?
No. We clone your existing system to the new SSD, so macOS, your applications, settings and files all carry across exactly as they were. Nothing needs reinstalling.
Can RAM be upgraded on my iMac?
On 27-inch models there is a user-accessible hatch, making it straightforward. On 21.5-inch models the display has to be removed, which increases the labour cost. We confirm which applies to your model before quoting.
Do you collect desktop machines?
Yes — iMacs and Mac Minis are collected and delivered free across Virar, Nallasopara, Vasai and Naigaon. We bring proper packing for the display.
My iMac will not switch on at all. What is the usual cause?
On older iMacs the power supply is the most common culprit, and it is a replaceable part rather than a reason to write the machine off. We diagnose free of charge before quoting.
