The first is hinges: HP's consumer Pavilion and 15-series machines mount the hinge into plastic posts that fatigue and tear out, taking the lid and often the display cable with them. We rebuild those mounts with brass threaded inserts rather than gluing them, which is why our hinge repairs on HP machines hold.
The second is thermal. HP's slim consumer chassis have limited airflow, and after three or four years without a service the heatsink is packed and the machine is throttling badly. Customers describe it as 'the laptop has become slow' and assume it needs replacing. A full teardown clean and repaste usually restores it completely.
On the business side, ProBook and EliteBook machines are well built and highly repairable, and they are excellent candidates for board-level repair rather than replacement when a charging circuit or power rail fails.
